After Haryana election results, AAP says no alliance with Congress for Delhi polls | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday decided to contest the assembly elections in Delhi on its own dismissing possibilities of forming an alliance with the Congress party.
AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar confirmed the party’s decision a day after the assembly election results in Haryana were announced in which the BJP emerged victorious while her party failed to open its account.
“We will contest Delhi (assembly) elections alone. On one side, it’s the overconfident Congress and on the other side, it’s the arrogant BJP. We will contest the election based on what we have done in Delhi in the last 10 years,” Priyanka Kakkar said while speaking to journalists in the capital.
Tuesday’s poll results marked a major setback for AAP in Haryana, where the party not only failed to secure a single seat but also garnered less than 2% of the vote share.
This was despite national convener Arvind Kejriwal, a native of Siwani in Bhiwani district, holding numerous roadshows and outreach events in his home state after being released on bail, urging voters to support ‘Haryana ka Lal’ (son of the soil).
Kejriwal’s appeal for votes based on his integrity and the party’s emotional campaign didn’t sway voters.
Despite a high-energy campaign, with key leaders like Manish Sisodia, MPs Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha and Kejriwal attacking BJP on issues such as corruption, misuse of central agencies and unemployment, AAP’s message failed to connect with the electorate.
