Amazon India head Tiwary quits after 8 years with company

MUMBAI: Amazon India head Manish Tiwary has quit the company after over eight years at the local arm of the Seattle-based e-commerce major.
Tiwary who spent close to two decades in the consumer industry prior to his tenure at Amazon, had joined the company as vice president (categories) in 2016, eventually assuming the position of country manager in 2020.In a statement, Amazon India said that Tiwary is leaving to pursue an opportunity outside the firm. To enable a smooth transition, Tiwary will continue with Amazon until Oct.
Tiwary, an HUL veteran, had held various senior positions at the FCMG major and even served as the managing director at Unilever Gulf and vice-president (customer development) for the company’s North Africa and Middle East regions. “India is an important priority for Amazon. We are excited by the momentum and business results we have already achieved, and we are even more optimistic about the significant opportunities ahead to innovate on behalf of our customers and digitally transform lives and livelihoods. Amit Agarwal, SVP India and Emerging Markets will remain involved with the Amazon.in team, guiding its strong bench of leaders to deliver on this opportunity,” Amazon India said in a statement.
Tiwary’s departure from Amazon comes at a time when competition in the Indian e-commerce market continues to be stiff with deep-pocketed players like Walmart’s Flipkart, SoftBank-backed Meesho betting bigger on the space. Amazon and Walmart have spent billions of dollars in India .
