In an effort to curb the increasing incidents of underage driving, which have recently led to significant accidents and fatalities nationwide, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate has issued a stern warning to parents and guardians. According to an official statement released on Tuesday evening, the Noida Police emphasized the illegality and danger posed by minors operating motor vehicles.
The police directive comes amidst concerns over safety and adherence to traffic laws, particularly following several alarming incidents involving minors across the region. It is both inappropriate and illegal for underage children to drive two-wheelers or four-wheelers under any circumstances, the statement said.
Parents to face strict actions if minor found driving
Parents or guardians found permitting minors to drive without a valid license will face severe penalties. These include fines of up to Rs 25,000, potential legal actions under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, and the cancellation of vehicle registration for a period of 12 months. Furthermore, minors caught driving illegally will be barred from obtaining a driving license until they reach the age of 25.
