Ever since Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced JD Vance as his running mate, the Indian origin of Vance’s wife is dominating the social media discourse. But there is one particular X post which has got even Elon Musk’s attention as he reacted with a smile. The post was made by Dr Parik Patel who shared a photo of Vance and his wife with one of their kids.
“You either hire an Indian CEO of live long enough to see yourself become India,” the post read.
Ohio Senator JD Vance is India’s son-in-law as his parents-in-law are Indian. Vance and Usha Chilukuri got marries in Kentucky in 2014. Usha grew up in a suburb of San Diego and met Vance in Yale. They have three children. The follow their different religions — Vance Catholic, Usha Hindu. Usha was a registered Democrat as of 2014 but was not vocal about her political leaning. Reports said Usha, a lawyer, resigned from her job just minutes after her husband became Trump’s running mate.

‘Hire an Indian CEO or become one’
Vance’s India connection became a reason for the social media users find Indian link common in many leaders’ background like Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Google CEO Sundar Pichai. And then there is present vice president Kamala Harris — daughter of cancer researcher Shyamala Gopalan, who was originally from Chennai. Kamala has also an African origin as her mother Donald Harris was from Jamaica.
It is ironic that Elon Musk reacted to the post because while taking then-Twitter over, he fired India’s Parag Agarwal as Twitter CEO.
As the post went viral, users chimed in with what they think is so special about India. “It’s impossible to beat the food. It’s the tastiest cuisine of any human group,” a user wrote.
“We love India, they send their best (most of the time!)” another wrote.
“Vance did both. His CEO is an Indian woman,” another wrote.
Vance, in an interview, credited his wife for helping him navigate challenges. He said he was raised Christian and was never baptized.
