SG Corporate Mobility, the parent company of LML, has filed a lawsuit against Bajaj Auto. The case, currently pending in the Delhi High Court, revolves around the use of the trademark ‘Freedom’ by Bajaj in its recently launched Freedom 125 CNG motorcycle.
‘Freedom’ trademark tussle: What’s the heart of the matter
SG Corporate Mobility claims exclusive rights to the “Freedom” trademark, which was originally introduced in 2002 by LML.The LML Freedom was quite a popular model back then. It was equipped with a 109.1 cc, single-cylinder engine. This engine produced a maximum power of 8.5 hp and a peak torque of 8.5 Nm.
The Freedom quickly gained popularity in Indian households, with the company selling over 1.8 lakh units in just one year after its launch. In 2013, the motorcycle received its first significant facelift after a decade, followed by a few more models before the brand was ultimately discontinued in 2017. The revival came in 2021 when SG Corporate Mobility took over, with plans to compete in the EV segment under the name LML Emotion.

With the legal dispute now in the hands of the Delhi High Court, the outcome will determine whether SG Corporate Mobility can reclaim sole ownership of the ‘Freedom’ trademark.
Bajaj ‘Freedom’ 125: World’s first CNG motorcycle
Earlier this year, Bajaj Auto had launched the Freedom 125, the world’s first CNG-powered motorcycle, priced from Rs 95,000, ex-showroom. Equipped with a 2 kg CNG cylinder placed under the seat and a 2-litre petrol tank, the Freedom 125 boasts a range of up to 330 km. Its 125cc, single-cylinder engine generates 9.4 hp and 9.7 Nm of torque.
