Mining scam: ED arrests Haryana Congress MLA Surender Pawar

NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Surender Pawar, Congress MLA from Haryana‘s Sonipat, in connection with a mining scam on late Friday night.
Pawar is known to be a close confidant of former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
The ED also took his son into custody.
It had then arrested former Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) legislator from Yamunanagar, Dilbag Singh and one of his associates, Kulwinder Singh, in the case.
The money-laundering investigation is based on multiple FIRs filed by the Haryana Police, which are investigating allegations of illegal mining of boulders, gravel, and sand in Yamunanagar and nearby areas.
The illegal mining reportedly occurred despite a ban imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
The federal agency is additionally looking into an alleged fraud involving the “e-Ravana” scheme.
This online portal was launched by the Haryana government in 2020 to streamline the collection of royalties and taxes, aiming to curb tax evasion in mining sectors.
