BMC Issues Notice: Mumbai Schools closed tomorrow

Mumbai Schools Closed on September 26th: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an urgent notification declaring a holiday for all schools and colleges in Mumbai on Thursday, 26 September 2024, as a precautionary measure due to severe weather conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed the city under a Red Alert until 8:30 AM tomorrow, citing concerns for public safety.
Given the alert, the BMC has advised residents to avoid leaving their homes unless absolutely necessary. The announcement follows the IMD’s forecast of severe thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall across Mumbai and nearby regions, including Palghar and Satara, with gusty winds expected to reach speeds of 40-50 kmph. These conditions are likely to persist into the evening, posing risks in isolated areas.
The adverse weather has already caused significant disruption, particularly at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, where flight operations have been affected. A recent incident saw an Indigo flight rerouted to Ahmedabad due to wind shear during landing attempts.
Mumbai’s suburban railway system has also faced challenges. Heavy rainfall has caused waterlogging on rail tracks in areas such as Kurla, Bhandup, and Vikhroli, leading to delays of up to an hour on the Central Railway line.
In light of these developments, the BMC has reiterated its appeal to residents, advising them to remain indoors unless absolutely essential, as shared through their official social media channels.
