UPPSC Announces Exam Dates for RO/ARO and PCS Prelims 2024: Multi-Shift Schedule Set to Accommodate Over 16 Lakh Candidates
UPPSC Announces RO ARO 2024 Exam Dates

The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has announced the exam dates for the Review Officer (RO) and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) posts under Advertisement No. A-7/E-1/2023. The UPPSC RO/ARO prelims examination for 2024 is scheduled for December 22 and 23, 2024. Due to the high volume of candidates, the exam will be conducted in multiple shifts across different districts in Uttar Pradesh.
RO/ARO Examination Schedule and Shift Details
According to the official release, the exam will occur over two days. On December 22, 2024, the first shift will run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, and the second shift from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. A third session is planned for December 23, 2024, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. With over 10 lakh candidates registered, UPPSC aims to maintain a cap of 5 lakh examinees per shift to ensure a well-organised process.
RO/ARO Recruitment Drive for 411 Vacancies
This recruitment drive seeks to fill 411 RO and ARO positions statewide. Applicants are encouraged to stay updated on exam-related information, such as the syllabus, pattern, and admit card release, as these details will be provided closer to the examination dates. The Commission has emphasised that the multi-shift scheduling is crucial for accommodating all candidates effectively.
PCS (Prelims) Examination 2024 Schedule
Additionally, authorities have released the schedule for the Combined State/Senior Subordinate Service (Prelims) Examination-2024, also known as PCS (Pre). This exam will take place on December 7 and 8, 2024, in 41 districts. There will be two sessions each day: one from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and the other from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
Reason for Multi-Shift Exams
The decision to hold these preliminary exams over multiple days and shifts stems from the non-availability of examination centres meeting government standards, despite exhaustive efforts. The Commission noted that these are screening exams and will not determine final merit rankings.
Notably, for the first time, the Commission will be conducting these exams within the same month, with less than a 20-day interval between them. The exams have an enormous turnout, with over 16.52 lakh candidates registered to participate.
Expert Committee Recommendations
A high-level committee of experts reviewed the exam evaluation process for multi-shift exams, considering past legal rulings related to examinations by various government agencies. Based on their recommendations, the Commission has developed a computer-based, transparent evaluation system that eliminates human intervention, ensuring fairness and accuracy.
Compliance with Government Orders
In line with government orders issued on June 19, 2024, any exam with more than five lakh registered candidates must be conducted over multiple shifts. The UPPSC press release confirms that with over 10.76 lakh candidates for the RO/ARO exam, this requirement will be upheld, necessitating a two-day examination format.
